Melissa, the owner of Cosmic Unicornz, is a mom, a seamstress, a fashion designer, and artist. Melissa began her sewing journey at a sewing camp at the age of 8. Completely enamored by the art of sewing, Melissa continued her journey through her teen years, taking sewing lessons and art classes. 

She went to UMass Dartmouth for illustration and art history, also loving painting and drawing. In school, Melissa focused on fashion illustration. After college, Melissa revisited her path as a fashion designer studying business at the School of Fashion Design on Newbury Street in Boston. In 2012, her brand Cosmic Unicornz was born. 

A local to the Worcester area for most of her life, Melissa was thrilled to open her first brick-and-mortar location at the Worcester Public Market in June of 2025.

Cosmic Unicornz Boutique is a magical shopping paradise for any art or fashion lover. Home base and sewing studio for designer Melissa Mattson’s brand Cosmic Unicornz, you can also find artworks, jewelry, and fashion pieces by over 2 dozen local artists.

Since 2012, Melissa has been showcasing pieces at craft fairs, music festivals, runway shows, and more all over New England.
